We keep searching for the promised land, but we never seem to find it.
All the talk about fish in double figures and the worry about broken tackle never surfaced today at Earlswood Reservoir.
As this was our first coach trip we decided to stop for breakfast on the way down, the 'A5 Truckstop' was chosen. Which was a good start to the day.
A typical Summers day with rain and wind started to put a dampener on things. We arrived at Earlswood at about 8.30am with the rain still coming down. However it soon brightened up and the sun peeked through the clouds.
The match started at 10.00am and fished thru till 3.00pm. Throughout the day we had sunshine and showers and a persistent 10-15mph Southerly breeze blowing in our face all day.
Everyone expected big weights today, but it didn't happen, although at least everyone caught.
It was somewhat of an irony that Kev Smith who had the Golden Peg for the last two matches on the trot didn't draw it today but won todays match!
Bill O'Keefe drew the Golden Peg today and again the curse continues, it did Bill no favours.
Whilst on the subject of bad luck, our sympathies lay with Neil Davies who during the course of the weigh-in lost his keep net along with his day's catch. Fortunately the keep net was recovered but the fish had long since gone, so Neil carded a 'DNW' today.
We also had a visit from the Environment Agency checking that everyone had valid rod licences, which of course they did.
Congratulations also to Phil Clare who today broke the current seasons best for biggest fish. Phil netted a Carp weighing in at 12lb 10oz. Let's see if this stands or will it be beaten?
After the weigh-in, we loaded up the coach and headed to the Reservoir Pub where we told fisherman's tales, had a pint and something to eat.
After the beer and food it was back on the coach, time for a few lively songs mainly inspired and led by Roly and Joe on the way back home.
The next match to Woodlands View on 26th July is also a coach trip, looking forward to it already... |
